In the world of film and editing, networking can provide invaluable opportunities as shown by the tenacious personality of Adrian Wall, a freshman communication major, who sought a job opening for himself at the local craft beer company Gnarly Barley Brewing Co.

Wall discussed his path to this opportunity.

“I have a pretty close friend who is a kind of high up at Gnarly Barley, and we were just hanging out one day, and I just kind of pitched the idea of letting me go in,” said Wall. “The original idea was to start a YouTube channel, but they already have one. They don’t really ever use it. So, I was kind of like, maybe I could take that over and then kind of work and help the business grow on that front.”

After pitching the idea to Cari Caramonta, she wanted him to do a trial run first.

Wall first found his passion for film and editing in high school.

“At Mandeville High, there’s the broadcast program, and essentially the broadcast program covers everything from any type of film media like film, music, radio and that’s why I started,” said Wall. “I’m certified in editing. Adobe Premiere was the editing software we could use, either that or Final Cut, and I’ve always had the ability to write and be creative in stuff that interests me. I’ve always been able to manipulate it and present it in a way that is interesting and somewhat uncommon.”

Wall soon realized he was unprepared for the new responsibility he had pursued.

“Whenever I talked to them, I had nothing written, and I didn’t even know what I wanted to do at all because I didn’t even know what beer we were going to do yet,” said Wall. “They told me there’s a new beer that’s about to come out called ‘Green Spaces.’ So, I was like, ‘OK,’ and rolled with the space theme. Two weeks later, I had the video finished and brought it to them, and they told me it was way too long.”

Wall created five different versions of the video. About two weeks later, when he thought it was never going to be posted, it showed up on Gnarly Barley’s social media outlets. The video on Facebook now has 3.7 thousand views and 46 shares.

Wall explained that he tries to keep the videos consistent with the youthful and outgoing image on Gnarly Barley as seen in their company logo of a skateboard wheel.

“It definitely has that concept which gets worked into everything,” said Wall. “The kind of light-hearted, funny and youthful feeling that a lot of their artwork on their beer cans convey,” said Wall. “I really wanted to be able to push that in the videos. I took a lot of inspiration from the Old Spice commercials and Chubbies Shorts YouTube channel.”

As he continues to grow with this new opportunity, Walls strives to convey a good time in his commercials.
