The Homecoming Game ended with a victory for the Lions over the Houston Baptist University Huskies 62-52.

The Lions and Huskies faced off in Strawberry Stadium on Oct. 13 at 4 p.m.

To Frank Scelfo, head coach, his team’s resiliency stood out to him.

“I’d say we compete all the way through the end of the game, and we did,” said Scelfo. “We did it again tonight. It’s just not gonna get us down. We’re not gonna flinch. No matter what happens to us, we’re not gonna hang our heads and give up.”

The win brought the team’s overall record to 3-4. The 114 total scored points tied for the most scored per game in program history. Scelfo discussed his team’s performance.

“What happened tonight is our offensive line did a much better job on the line of scrimmage,” said Scelfo. “Instead of pushing guys, we engaged guys. We attacked guys. I think we did a great job.”

Scelfo looks to improve with every game.

“Defensively, we got to get some things squared away,” said Scelfo. “Tempo hurt us. A couple of trick plays with huge yardage, and they had a couple of fast-paced drives that scored three, four, five plays that went right down the field.”

Though the Lions finished the first quarter, 21-0, the Huskies started to catch up in the following quarters. Chason Virgil, a junior quarterback, discussed the game’s dynamic.

“It’s a roller coaster,” said Virgil. “I’ve been in games where you had a big lead, and they came back and won the game. This game is the same experience from our last one, just try to go out there and continue to make plays. Like I said, our defense was playing really good. It was giving us great field position with the punt returns, kick returns as well.”
