The College of Nursing and Health Sciences hosted its first “Canines and Cupcakes” to raise money for educational activities and provide a stress relief.

“Canines and Cupcakes” was held on Dec. 1 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Kinesiology Building.

Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences Ann Carruth explained the importance of this event.

Carruth said, “Aside from the fundraising for students aspect of it and the fact that it can serve as a much-needed stress reliever for final exams, this event can also be educational in regards to dogs, and it can also be an opportunity for the community to come together, socialize and learn things from each other.”

According to Carruth, planning for the event started in September.

“The inspiration for this event came from the ‘Teddy Bear’ event held in New Orleans,” said Carruth. “So, I got a group together and asked if they were interested in this idea.”

Based on the fundraiser’s success, Carruth hopes to continue holding “Canines and Cupcakes.”
